I’m not religious, my family isn’t religious at all. I have never gone to church with my family. We only pray before dinner on Easter and thanksgiving. My mom is catholic, my dad is.. Maybe catholic and I fall more Christian.. I suppose. My dog tags are stamped “no religious preference.”

But I like participating in lent. I do it to prove to myself that I can, to build my self control. So I’m sitting here thinking about that when I realize that today is ash Wednesday.. And I already broke part of my lent.. Oops. I will start tomorrow and add a extra day!

Every year I give up pop. I started that in 2005, as a senior in high school.. My first year actually participating. I gave up pop and chocolate.. While working across from a candy shop bahaha. I only broke lent once that year, and I still don’t know how I managed to forget to not get pop lol. The only year I didn’t participate was 2008, while I was in AIT.

I’m not the best at completely giving stuff up, I slip up once or twice.. But I think everyone does, no matter what they say!

So this year I’m going with a few.. And creating the rules for each.. Because I’m going crazy this year! Haha
•pop
•every form of caffeine BUT coffee/tea (I only have a cup at a time. And only when I need it.. And when I need it I need it) so i guess i could just say: no energy drinks! (oh red bull, I will miss you)
•fast food: including subway & jimmy johns, pizza **
•candy(excluding gum.. Essential for surviving class)
•credit cards (this comes with more exemptions.. I.e emergency, if I’m in need of food/gas/pay a bill and I still have days until I get my gi bill money. I can use the card and then pay off that amount as soon as I get paid)
•alcohol (gasp! Haha)

It’s a bold year. And I’m excited. Everything is a non-essential.. Which makes giving it up even sweeter.

**Im not considering chipotle as fast food.. Because I have a chipotle date on Sunday with my sister lol and I live so far from any that well, I probably will have 3 chances max to eat it.. Plus it really isn’t fast food. It’s real food, prepared in front of you!
